Where Will We Be Detecting?
Every wellbeing session is unique, and that's part of what makes the experience so enjoyable.
Depending on what land is available at the time, your session may take place on one of our private permissions, where it could simply be you and your mentor enjoying a peaceful day in the countryside, or you may join us on an organised group dig, where there could be 40 or more detectorists taking part.
If your session happens to be on a group dig, please don't let that put you off.
The fields we use are often many acres in size, meaning everyone naturally spreads out across the land. It never feels crowded, and you'll remain with your mentor throughout the day.
We work entirely at your pace.
If you're feeling anxious, we'll move to a quieter part of the field. If you'd like to stop for a chat, we'll stop. If you'd rather simply enjoy the peace and quiet while listening for signals, that's absolutely fine too.
Many participants actually find group digs comforting. You're surrounded by like-minded people enjoying the same hobby, but there's no pressure to socialise or speak to anyone if you don't want to. You can simply enjoy the day in whatever way feels right for you.
Whether you're on a private permission or a larger organised dig, our priority never changes—your wellbeing comes first.
What Happens on the Day?
When you arrive, you'll be welcomed by one of our trained volunteers or ambassadors. We understand that meeting someone new can feel daunting, so we'll spend a little time chatting before we even switch a detector on.
There is no rush.
We'll introduce you to the equipment, show you how everything works and stay with you throughout the entire session. You don't need any previous experience—we'll guide you every step of the way until you feel comfortable.
Most sessions can last up to 8 hours, although there is absolutely no expectation for you to stay that long. You're welcome to finish whenever you feel ready. If you need a break, want to sit down for a chat, or decide you'd like to head home earlier, that's completely fine.
This day is about you. We'll work at a pace that suits you from start to finish.
It's About More Than Metal Detecting
Finding history is exciting, but that's not why we're here.
Our aim is to help you slow down, enjoy being outdoors, breathe some fresh air and give your mind a break from the constant pressures that life can bring.
Many people tell us they quickly forget about their worries as they begin listening for signals, digging their first finds and simply enjoying good conversation without any expectations.
Some participants spend the day talking.
Others hardly talk at all.
Both are perfectly okay.
Sometimes the greatest discovery isn't what's in the ground...
It's realising you're smiling again.

Our Promise
There are no expectations.
You don't have to talk if you don't want to.
You don't have to explain what you're going through.
There are no waiting rooms, no forms to fill in on the day, and no pressure to be anyone other than yourself.
We're simply two people spending time outdoors, enjoying the hobby of metal detecting, one signal at a time.
At Signals of Hope Detecting, we believe recovery doesn't always begin in a counselling room.
Sometimes it begins in a field, with a detector in your hand, birds singing around you, fresh air in your lungs, and someone beside you who genuinely cares.
