Detecting With Jessie
Hi, I’m Jessie, a metal detectorist from South Wales.
I’ve been detecting for around four years, and over that time it’s grown into much more than just a hobby, it’s a real passion. For me, metal detecting is a way to unwind, connect with nature, and uncover pieces of history that have been hidden for centuries. It’s also introduced me to a great community and friendships that will last a lifetime.
I enjoy documenting my finds on social media, sharing both the history I uncover and the beautiful landscapes I explore along the way. I’ve always had a strong interest in history. As a child, I’d spend my pocket money on old coins. A visit to Caerleon Museum with my family, where I saw a hoard of Roman silver denarii, really inspired me and sparked the dream of one day finding something similar.
Not long after, my Mam bought me my first metal detector, and the rest is history. Since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to discover my own Roman silver denarius plus many more amazing finds.
Essex Metal Hunter
Originally from Essex, I moved to Suffolk in 2020 and stumbled into metal detecting during 2023 thanks to a new friend who handed me a spare machine—and unknowingly set off an obsession.
It was something I’d always been curious about, but never quite knew where to begin. That first beep in the field changed everything. I bought my first machine, starting out with a Nokta Simplex, learning the ropes one signal at a time. Before long, I’d caught the bug and upgraded to a multi-frequency Equinox 700—proof that this hobby can get expensive as quickly as it gets interesting.
Since then, alongside my detecting buddy Daniel, we have secured some fantastic permissions and uncovered pieces of the past that might otherwise have stayed hidden forever.
Not long after, I launched a YouTube channel to share the adventures. Metal detecting isn’t just about what’s buried beneath your feet. It’s about the thrill of discovery, the stories you uncover, and the brilliant community of like-minded history hunters you meet along the way.
The Bearded Bleepers
The Bearded Bleepers are a small Surrey-based team of detectorists exploring the rich history beneath the fields of the Surrey Hills through metal detecting. Led by Murray, the group combines a passion for discovery with a commitment to responsible detecting, uncovering and sharing the stories hidden beneath our feet.
Through weekly YouTube videos, their website and online museum, and the Bleepers Blog, they bring their finds to life for a growing audience. Their work extends beyond the field, with a public exhibition at Shere Museum showcasing their discoveries and connecting the local community with Surrey’s past. Murray and the Bleepers were also recently featured in Treasure Hunting Magazine, a proud milestone in their detecting journey.
Murray will also be appearing on BBC Sounds (Secret Surrey), where he discusses the search for the lost site of the Battle of Aclea. From medieval artefacts to everyday lost items, The Bearded Bleepers focus on making history accessible, engaging, and real.
