For over forty years, I’ve lived with the weight of mental health struggles — days of silence, nights of overthinking, and moments that felt impossible to get through. But eight years ago, I stumbled upon something that gave me peace — metal detecting.

 

What started as a quiet escape soon became a lifeline. Each time I stepped into an open field, detector in hand, I found calm in the stillness and purpose in the search. There’s something powerful about the process — unearthing treasures from the ground is a lot like unearthing sadness from the mind. Each signal reminds me that even beneath the surface, something good is waiting to be found.

 

As I met others in the detecting community, I realised I wasn’t alone. Many of us had discovered the same kind of peace — the same connection between the hobby and mental health. And that shared understanding became the heart of what is now Signals of Hope.
